Business revenue at Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park (HSIP) for this year is estimated to reach NT$950 billion with the integrated-circuits (IC) sector leading the other five major sectors in the park.
According to the park administration, business revenue generated by the IC companies in the park during the first ten months of this year was worth NT$471.7 billion, growing by 74.26 percent from the same period last year. As of November, the number of companies located in the park totaled 306, among which 266 were in full operation and 213 have formally launched their products on the market. The number of staff workers in the park reached a record high of 101,500 including 6,207 foreign workers.
The 115 IC firms in the park registered an impressive growth of 74.26 percent in sales revenue during the first ten months of this year, major IC companies include Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (TSMC), United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC), Micronix International, and Winbond Electronics.
Of the six major sectors in the park, computer and peripheral manufacturers reported the lowest sales revenue growth of 11.22 percent, with total revenues at NT$177.2 billion. The park administration attributed the low growth rate to outbound investments by local PC and peripheral makers. Meanwhile, the park’s 44 optoelectronics companies produced NT$67.3 billion in sales revenue, representing a growth rate of 67.85 percent, second only to the IC sector in the park. As for the telecom sector, the sales revenue during the first ten months of this year grew to NT$39.5 billion, or 21.47 percent. The precision machinery sector aggregated NT$5.6 billion in sales revenue this year, an increase of 53.88 percent from the same period last year. Last but not the least, the 17 bio-tech firms in HSIP reported NT$752.6 million in sales revenue so far this year. The 49.69 percent growth rate indicates this sector’s growth potential in the next century.
