Denmark’s Camilla Martin and her fiance Peter Gade took the singles titles in the Korea Open badminton championship on Sunday.
Martin, the world champion and 2000 Sydney Olympic silver medallist, beat South Korea’s Kim Ji-hyun for the women’s title after a bitter battle.
Defending champion Martin won the first game easily, 11-7, but lost the second 8-11. Kim went 10-1 up in the third before Martin pulled herself together and triumphed 13-10 to win the $17,250 prize.
Gade beat mainland China’s Xiao-hul easily in the men’s final 15-7 15-6.
In the mixed doubles, South Koreans Kim Dong-moon and Ra Kyung-min, 1999 and 2000 champions of the Open, demolished Sydney Olympic gold medallists Zhang Jun and Gao Ling of mainland China 15-8 15-11.
Kim Dong-moon also won the men’s doubles, helping Ha Tae-kwon to defeat compatriots Lee Dong-soo and Yoo Yong sung 15-9 15-4.
Mainland China’s Huang Nanyan and Yang Wei beat South Koreans Ra Kyung-min and Kim Kyeung-ran 15-13 15-10 in the women’s final.
