Chinese Taipei team leaves for East Asian games in Osaka

The Chinese Taipei athletic team, under the leadership of Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee (CTOC) Vice Chairman Tseng Yung-chuan, began leaving for Japan yesterday to take part in the Third East Asia Games slated to kick off Saturday in Osaka.

The 143-member group that left Wednesday is the largest Chinese Taipei group to have departed for Japan for the 2001 East Asia Games, which is considered a dress rehearsal for the Olympics.

During the May 19-27 games, Taiwan athletes will take part in two demonstration events and 15 categories of competition, including basketball, boxing, diving, wrestling, volleyball, gymnastics, judo, taekwondo and rowing.
