Taichung area travelers may finally get some international flights this year, according to the city’s Chamber of Commerce (TCC) head.
TCC President Lai Cheng-yi said yesterday that travelers can expect a chartered flight service to Hong Kong from the Chingchuankang Airport in Taichung County to begin by the end of the year. Lai said the airport currently cannot offer international flights, as the runway is too short for larger aircraft. The businessman said the TCC appealed to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications to expand the airport runway.
Lai said there is a need for the flight as half the mainland bound travelers making transit stops in Hong Kong are from central regions of the island.
