Auction held for Katrina musicians

U2 guitarist the Edge is donating one of his favorite guitars for a rock memorabilia auction that will benefit Music Rising, a campaign he has spearheaded to replace instruments that Gulf Coast musicians lost in the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina.

The Edge’s 1975 Cream Gibson Les Paul will be auctioned April 21 along with one of Jimi Hendrix’s guitars, a guitar created for the Music Rising campaign and signed by members of the Rolling Stones, a pair of sunglasses once worn by John Lennon and lyrics handwritten by Bruce Springsteen.

About 200 items have been donated for the cause. Some of the key items will be previewed Tuesday through Thursday at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles and in April in Dublin, London and New York.

The auction will take place at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York.
