Thirteen people died and another person was missing after torrential rain triggered floods and landslides in southwest China, state media said Sunday.
Bridges, roads and homes were swept away by floodwaters following heavy rain in Sichuan province since Wednesday, the official Xinhua news agency said.
Five of the victims died when their homes were buried by a mudslide late Saturday, it added. Two more were killed by lightening and the missing person was swept away by floodwater, the agency quoted the provincial disaster relief office as saying.
The downpours also caused an evacuation of 2,256 people, flattened 369 houses and three bridges, and caused damage to another 2,611 houses and sections of roads, the office said.
