Handball: Kuwait men qualify for Olympics

TOYOTA, Japan — Kuwait secured a place in the men’s handball at the Beijing Olympics when Japan defeated Qatar 36-25 to give them top place in the Asian qualifying tournament on Wednesday. Asian champions Kuwait have a 3-0 win-loss record, followed by South Korea and Japan with a 2-1, Qatar 1-2 and the United Arab Emirates 0-3 in the five-team round robin competition.

Kuwait will go through even if they lose to Qatar on the final day, having beaten both South Korea and Japan in previous heats. Those two teams will fight for second place to win a berth in the final qualifying tournament starting in May next year.
