Salmon, Priddy lead U.S. to NORCECA victory


ANAHEIM, California — Riley Salmon made 16 kills and Reid Priddy added 14 to lead the United States to its third consecutive NORCECA men’s volleyball championship, a 25-20, 23-25, 25 22, 25-23 victory over Puerto Rico on Friday. Both teams qualified for the World Cup in November in Japan, which will determine three of the competitors for the Beijing Olympics. Regional qualifying will determine the other Olympic entrants.

Cuba won the bronze medal with a 38-36, 25-21, 25-22 victory over Canada. Clay Stanley added 13 kills and David Lee made five blocks for the United States, which is fifth in the world rankings and won NORCECA gold medals in 2005 and 2003.
