Chinese-version ‘Leben in Deutschland’ published


TAIPEI, Taiwan — Taipei-based Soochow University’s Department of German Language and Culture published the Chinese version of the German language book “Leben in Deutschland, “ meaning “Life in Germany” in English, Wednesday, after it was translated by 26 students and teachers in the department.

Government Information Office Minister Shieh Jhy-wey, who had served as director of the department and head of Soochow University’s School of Foreign Languages and Cultures before entering government service, offered his congratulations during his visit to the university for the book’s launch.

Introducing the 400-page book authored by Theo Sommer, Shieh said the book offers firsthand information of Germany’s history, culture and current social situation.

The translation was part of the Ministry of Education’s 2006 excellence in teaching recognition project, which offers financial subsidies to colleges and universities seeking to improve the quality of instruction.
