Bernard Laporte suspected of corrupt financial dealings

PARIS — French rugby coach Bernard Laporte, feted as a hero after France beat the hot favorites the All Blacks in the World Cup quarterfinals, could be prosecuted for financial corruption, weekly sports magazine L’Equipe claimed in its edition to be published on Saturday.

The 43-year-old, who is due to become a junior sports minister in the French government following France’s World Cup third-place play-off against Argentina on Friday night, has, according to L’Equipe, been under investigation for a year by the national fraud squad (DNEF).
