For many decades, Taiwan has been globally recognized because of its substantial contributions to the world economy through its renowned innovation and R&D, and producing numerous IT and high tech products which have ranked first or second globally. This time, as the country opens its doors to new relations and new links across the Taiwan Strait, Taiwan government promises to offer vast opportunities for business and investment. Marking a milestone across the straits, Taiwan is holding the most significant event of the year — the “2008 Taiwan Business Alliance Conference — New Taiwan, New Opportunities” — which begins today and will deliver more enlightening and more dynamic activities.

The new Taiwan government has widely accelerated the new policy of deregulation in over 25 aspects to enhance the nation’s economic capabilities and will continuously announce by the end of this year, including establishing direct cargo flights, raising the ceiling on Taiwanese headquarters and foreign company’s subsidiaries’ investment in China from 40 to 60 percent of net asset values, as well as enhancing financial supervision between the two sides of the Strait. Certainly, more incentives and convenience for FDI are abidingly provided, such as the minimum capital requirement for companies established in Taiwan will be cut in half. Moreover, Taiwan has put forward a “Twelve Major Construction Projects in Taiwan” plan which focuses particularly on the area of infrastructure construction that foreign investors should be interested in, such as Island-wide Transportation Network, Kaohsiung Free Trade and Ecology Harbor, Taoyuan International Aviation City. As many industries quickly emerge on the island, Taiwan will carry out new projects of both high tech — LED, MEMS, biotechnology, and services industries —finance and insurance, tourism and hospitality, and logistics. They are underway in order to facilitate and accommodate prospective investors wishing to invest in Taiwan.

Organizers of the event sincerely invite those interested to join this unique conference, share experiences with multinational entrepreneurs, and build up business strategic partnership with Taiwan. It is hoped that this event truly marks the beginning of new and lasting business alliances between Taiwan and the world.
