Most complaints to gov’t about Net involve porn

TAIPEI — The government has handled 729 complaints and criminal cases, mostly about online material deemed obscene, since opening a service for reporting inappropriate web content and online crimes, the National Communications Commission (NCC) said Saturday. In a report, the commission said 54 percent of the complaints were about pornography, 19 percent about online crimes and 15 percent about inappropriate advertising content. The NCC, the nation’s top regulator of the communication service-sector, set up the online service on Aug. 2. In the past two months, authorities removed or imposed restrictions on 234 websites that were reportedly involved in online crimes or carrying material deemed obscene or otherwise inappropriate, the NCC report said.
