Taiwan boat hijack report false: east African official

NAIROBI — The Taiwanese fishing boat reported hijacked off east Africa has actually not been seized at all, an east African maritime official said on Friday. “The Taiwanese fishing boat has just been confirmed as free. Apparently, it was never hijacked in the first place, just a false report from the owner when there was no contact for two days,” said Andrew Mwangura, coordinator of the East African Seafarers’ Assistance Programme. The Feng-guo 168 had been reported seized 200 nautical miles north of the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius.
