TAIPEI, Taiwan — Premier Wu Den-yih confirmed yesterday that Indonesia is preparing to offer one of its islets to Taiwanese businessmen to develop and that discussions have been underway.
“The administration is more than willing to help as long as the cooperation project is Taiwan-centric and good for the people,” Wu said after meeting a group of outstanding overseas Chinese and Taiwanese business leaders at the Executive Yuan.
He said that the Indonesian government is preparing to offer the Indonesian islet of Morotai to Taiwanese businesses and Taiwanese citizens maintaining business operations in China so they can jointly develop it with the Indonesian government and local partners.
“A number of Taiwanese businessmen have visited Morotai and more are planning to go to explore the co development offer,” Wu said.
Indonesian officials will come to Taiwan in November for further discussions on the matter, a local newspaper said.
