HONG KONG — Taiwan is the first choice of Hong Kong people as a destination for overseas travel, according to the results of a MasterCard survey.
Among 10,502 MasterCard holders in the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East and Africa who answered the survey between September and November, 58 percent of the respondents in Hong Kong said they plan to fly abroad in the next six months.
Their three most favored destinations are Taiwan (47 percent), China (45 percent) and Japan (44 percent), according to the survey results.
Chen Tsao-ming, director of the Hong Kong office of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, said the similar cultural background is the reason Taiwan is the most popular overseas destination for Hong Kong tourists, along with Taiwan’s food and hospitality. The National Palace Museum, the Shih-lin night market and the Taroko national park are the famous scenic spots among tourists.
