TAIPEI, Taiwan — MStar Semiconductor Inc., one of Taiwan’s leading integrated circuit (IC) designers, said yesterday it recorded a 17.66 percent month-on-month increase in sales for January.
Market analysts said the strong showing in the company’s monthly revenue reflected growing shipments in TV chips which accounted for more than 90 percent of MStar’s total sales.
They said global demand for TVs started bottoming out from the beginning of this year after hitting a low in the fourth quarter of last year.
In January, MStar recorded NT$2.63 billion in sales. If the sales were denominated in U.S. dollar, the growth even hit 21.57 percent from a month earlier, MStar said.
MStar is scheduled to hold its first investors conference on Feb. 14 to release its 2010 results and give guidance for 2011 after it launched a primary listing on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in late December.
