TAIPEI–Taipei reported the highest monthly number of building transactions in 32 months in January on the shoulders of strong buying demand, local property agencies said yesterday.
Government figures show that 7,051 buildings were bought and sold in January in Taipei City, a new high since May 2008, when 7,218 transactions were reported.
The January figures were an increase of 9.64 percent from the previous month.
H&B Business Group spokeswoman Jessica Hsu and Jeffrey Huang, an assistant manager at Yungching Rehouse Group, both attributed the record figures to surging demand from newly married couples ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday that ended earlier this month.
The monthly number of building transactions in the northern city have exceeded 7,000 only four times since 2003, according to Stanley Su, a senior researcher with Sinyi Realty Co.
