HOUSTON — The Nigerian-American operator of a Houston day care where four children died in a fire now faces 10 charges arising from the deadly blaze. Court documents made public Wednesday show prosecutors have filed six additional counts of reckless injury to a child, adding to the one filed earlier in the week. The 22-year-old also faces three counts of abandoning a child. The Feb. 24 blaze at the home day care facility also injured three other children.
Investigators say surveillance video shows Jessica Tata had left the children alone and was shopping at a nearby store when the fire started. Authorities say Tata has fled to Nigeria and they are working to locate her.
