TAIPEI–Taiwan’s national news agency had a good result in a local annual photography contest Sunday, picking up a total of six awards. CNA entries won six awards in five categories in the 2011 Taiwan Press Photo Contest, including first and third places in the Picture Series category, first place in the Nature, Environment and Technology category, second place in the Breaking News Story category, second place in the Arts and Entertainment category, and third place in the People in the News category. Namita Lin, a CNA journalist based in Thailand, won first place in the Picture Series category for her photos of Thailand’s opposition Red Shirt movement taken during last year’s April and May demonstrations. “For someone who is an amateur photographer and does not even understand jargon such as aperture, I truly appreciate the jury board’s selection of my work,” said Lin. Hsu Chao-Chang, also a CNA journalist, won second place in the Breaking News category and third place in the Photo Series category with his photos of the Hohaiyan Rock Festival, a three-day beach music extravaganza held at Fulong Beach in Taipei County last July. The 10 photos he submitted to the jury were selected from among thousands of photos he took at the show, he added.
