Taiwan’s U-Theatre to perform in New Zealand

TAIPEI–Taipei-based performing arts group U-Theatre has been invited to take part at a major arts festival in Auckland, New Zealand, and will give four performances on March 15-18, a spokesman for the troupe said yesterday.

U-Theatre is renowned for its unique combination of drumming, Zen meditation and martial arts.

First lady Chow Mei-ching, who is currently leading the Taipei Philharmonic Chamber Choir on a U.S. tour, will join U-Theatre and serve as its honorary leader for its debut at the Auckland Arts Festival 2011, Kuo Ken-fu, the troupe’s spokesman, said in a news release.

Presented biennially and running March 2 to 20 this year, the Auckland Arts Festival is the city’s premier showcase of art and culture and features a strong line-up of theater, dance, music, film, visual arts and special events.
