TAIPEI–Former Kaohsiung County Magistrate Yang Chiu-hsing will leave for China Sunday on a 10-day visit.
He will visit Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai before returning to Kaohsiung March 29.
Yang, who holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from National Taiwan University, said he wants to visit Tsinghua University’s famous civil engineering department.
He will also visit Nanjing University and a Shanghai bakery run by a Taiwanese businessman. The bakery has more than 1,000 outlets around China.
The two-term Kaohsiung magistrate left the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to run as an independent in the Kaohsiung municipality election last November, but lost to Chen Chu of the DPP, who was the incumbent Kaohsiung City mayor.
