The China Post news staff–A man with a long rap sheet was arrested on March 18 on suspicion of murdering a female real estate broker and disfiguring her body, said Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) sources yesterday. The man, surnamed Huang, was once the victim’s, surnamed Chung, boyfriend. He had attempted suicide by burning charcoal in the Chung’s car before his arrest, but was saved by passers-by.
Police in Hualien discovered the victim’s body on March 16 in her apartment. Investigators found seven slashes on her right arm and several more on her face, evidence that he attempted to disfigure her.
The police probe shows that Chung first met Huang in 2009. Afterwards, the two maintained a stormy relationship. Violent fights over drinking and money problems were frequent, according to police investigators.
Chung came under the umbrella of a protective order issued by a court after Huang threatened to harm her. But Huang was apparently not deterred as Chung reported his violations of the order to the police on March 12.
