EU music groups cancel shows over radiation fears

TAIPEI–Musical artists from Germany and France have decided to cancel their Taiwan tour stops, citing fears of exposure to radiation leaked from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan, the organizer said yesterday.

The highly awaited French musical “Piaf: Une Vie En Rose et Noir,” which was due to appear at the National Theater on April 1-2 in Taipei ,was canceled ,while the performance by the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet on June 30 at the National Concert Hall was also taken off the hall’s concert schedule.

Hung Hsin-yu, a staff from New Aspect Promotion Corporation, which tried to organize both events, told the Central News Agency that he was very surprised when he was informed by the two groups about the cancellation.
