SINGAPORE–U.S.-based Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is eyeing the Taiwanese market and planning to open its first shops next year, its CEO said yesterday.
Mel Elias, CEO and president of the Coffee Bean, told CNA that he has begun to seek business partners in Taiwan, and could open outlets shortly, which he forecast to be next year.
Elias is planning the first round of openings in Taipei, although the substantive timetable is still under consideration.
He said he knows Taiwan already has many coffee shop brands, including Starbucks, but he has confidence in his chain’s ability to expand into the Taiwanese market.
The Coffee Bean is a Los Angeles, California-based coffee chain, owned and operated by International Coffee & Tea, LLC. Its first store opened in 1963. The chain now has over 750 outlets in 22 countries.
