Taiwan to attend World Health Assembly as an observer

TAIPEI–Taiwan will attend the annual World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 16-24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said yesterday.

This will be the third consecutive year that Taiwan has been officially invited to attend the annual global health conference as an observer since President Ma Ying-jeou assumed office in 2008

Lily Hsu, the deputy director-general of MOFA’s Department of International Organizations, said this year’s conference will focus on the prevention of non-infectious diseases.

In addition, Taiwanese delegates, led by Department of Health Minister Chiu Wen-ta, will also discuss how to strengthen national health care systems, as well as HIV/AIDS prevention.
