Rumsfeld’s Double Ten visit to begin on Oct. 9

TAIPEI — Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and his chief aide Keith Urbahn will fly to Taiwan Oct. 9 to attend Republic of China centennial celebrations Oct. 10, the country’s National Day.

In a statement released Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) touted Rumsfeld’s visit during the centennial celebrations as “profoundly significant.”

Rumsfeld made significant contributions to Taiwan-U.S. military cooperation during his tenure as defense secretary of the then-President George W. Bush. “The current close military interactions between Taiwan and the United States is one of Rumsfeld’s legacies,” the MOFA said.
