Cross-strait flights to be added for holiday: CAA

TAIPEI–The Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) said in a statement released late Thursday that up to 340 extra direct flights will be added between local airports and six major Chinese airports during the Lunar New Year holiday season.

Officials from the two sides have agreed that airlines on each side of the Taiwan Strait can apply for additional flights according to demand during the Jan. 9-Feb. 6 period next year, with no limit on the total number of extra flights, the CAA said.

However, the number of extra flights to and from six of the busiest Chinese airports will be limited to 340, with 32 for Beijing, 100 for Shanghai’s Pudong Airport, 70 for Hangzhou, 36 for Nanjing, 26 for Guangzhou and 76 for Shenzhen, it said.

Each side’s airlines will get 170 of the additional flight allocations.
