TAIPEI–Most of Taiwan’s office workers said they are interested in getting married amid the marriage boom this year, according to the results of a survey released yesterday.

Fifty-seven percent of the respondents said they have been giving marriage more thought, as more people seem to be getting hitched this year, according to the poll by the 360d Human Resources Group.

Among those polled, 36 percent said the main reason is that they are at the right age, while 37 percent said they also want to pursue happiness after seeing other people find theirs.

According to 14 percent of the respondents, however, marriage is merely a ploy to get some cash. They said that giving traditional wedding gifts of cash in a red envelope costs them a great deal and that if they get married, they can recoup some of the money.
