Gov’t agency names Kenting as Taiwan’s most visited national park

TAIPEI — The Construction and Planning Agency (CPA) said yesterday that the Kenting National Park in Pingtung County, southern Taiwan, is the most-visited national park in the country.

The agency also noted that the most significant increase in tourist numbers in the nation’s national park areas was observed in the Kinmen National Park in the outlying island of Kinmen County.

The CPA said a total of 13.05 million tourists visited Taiwan’s national parks in the first nine months of this year. Of these visitors, 34.2 percent visited the Kenting National Park. Meanwhile, the number of tourists to the Kinmen National Park for the first nine months of this year was nearly double the figure for last year, according to the CPA.

The agency attributed the increase to the growing number of Chinese tourists visiting the island, which lies just off the coast of China.

Taiwan is home to eight national parks, which account for 8.6 percent of the country’s total territory.
