TAIPEI–The production value of Taiwan’s communications equipment industry is expected to top NT$1 trillion in 2011 on the back of rising demand for smart phones and Internet equipment, a government report said Friday.
The report released by the Industry and Technology Intelligence Service (ITIS) estimated that the output of the local communications equipment sector for 2011 will rise 28.6 percent from a year earlier to NT$1.09 trillion (US$36 billion).
The ITIS is a research institute of the Department of Industrial Technology under the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The total output of communications equipment manufacturing and services for 2011 is expected to total NT$1.48 trillion, up 18.1 percent from a year earlier, the ITIS said.
According to the ITIS, the output of domestic communications equipment makers in the third quarter of this year totaled NT$296.3 billion.
