Yani Tseng finishes sixth in LPGA finale at 2-under

TAIPEI–World No. 1 female golfer Yani Tseng of Taiwan finished tied for sixth after firing a 2-over 74 in the final round of the LPGA CME Group Titleholders Cup on Sunday.

South Korea’s Hee Young Park won the season-ending LPGA tournament title in her first tour victory, closing with a 2-under 70. She held off American Paula Creamer and Germany’s Sandra Gal by two strokes.

“I really, really wanted to win this tournament and just didn’t go the way I wanted,” Tseng was quoted by the Associated Press as saying.

“Kind of disappointed. But it’s the last day of the last tournament of the year, so I’m happy and just nice to have something that I know I can work on in the offseason and just that’s it,” she said.

Tseng, whose 11 global titles this season include seven LPGA crowns, shot a 2-under 286 to tie for sixth with Americans Michelle Wie and Christie Kerr. Tseng won US$35,057 of a total purse of US$1.5 million.
