The China Post news staff–National Cheng Kung University’s (NCKU) Department of Electrical Engineering was ranked as the tenth best in the world by the High Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT, 台灣高等教育評鑑中心), and the best among Taiwanese universities. NCKU’s Departments of Computer Science and Information Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering also topped other local universities in their categories in the HEEACT 2011 evaluation on the quality and quantity of scientific papers by world universities.
NCKU President Hwung Hwung-hweng (黃煌煇) said that NCKU is on a par with National Taiwan University in engineering and praised NCKU students for their studious attitude and their passion for knowledge.
Tzeng Yon-hua (曾永華), dean of NCKU’s College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, attributed the achievement of the three departments to the rapid expansion of local electrical engineering and IT industries to southern Taiwan, the enthusiasm of NCKU professors and students as well as the dedication of NCKU researchers to high quality researches.
NCKU’s electrical engineering department bested similar departments from Harvard University and Tsinghua University in China to gain the tenth best rank in the HEEACT evaluation. It also advanced by two places compared to its rank last year. The computer science department was ranked 13th and mechanical engineering ranked 39th.
