TAIPEI–The Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC), Taipei’s metro system company, said Sunday that the Maokong Gondola, which it operates, is set to undergo routine mechanical checkups from the following day through Dec. 15.
The company said the checkup is in compliance with the cable company POMA’s handbook, which specifies that an annual mechanical checkup of 11 days is needed to ensure passenger safety.
The checkup will be completed in time for the system to accommodate the large crowds that are expected to use the system during the Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Chinese New Year holiday season, TRTC officials said.
Mechanics from POMA will provide on-site guidance to help the local mechanics, the metro company said.
Previous mechanical checkups were conducted in mid-December in 2010 and in June 2011 since the gondola resumed operations in March 2010.
