New bill bans sale of large national lands

The Legislative Yuan yesterday passed the amendment of the National Property Act to ban the sale of national lands larger than 1,650 meters in area. Kuomintang lawmaker Lai Shyh-bao (賴士葆) said he sponsored the bill because selling national lands does more harm than good to the government. The new law will forbid the sales of land over the stated area unless it is specifically proposed to and approved by the Executive Yuan.

The National Property Administration will still be allowed to sell non-public use national lands or vacant buildings under 1,650 meters.
