Hotai posts top car sales in Taiwan for 10th year

TAIPEI — Hotai Motor Co., the Taiwanese sales agent for Toyota, remained the top auto vendor in Taiwan in 2011, marking its 10th consecutive year of having the biggest market share in the country.

Despite the earthquake and tsunami in Japan in March and the recent flooding in Thailand, both of which impacted Toyota, Hotai still posted “an amazing performance,” with a 31.6 market share in 2011, the company said in a statement yesterday.

“It was a rare and commendable year for Toyota,” it said.

Hotai said it sold 119,425 cars last year, a record high since 2005, registering an annual growth rate of 17.6 percent, which was even higher than that of total car sales in Taiwan.
