TAIPEI–Taipei was selected as the most charming city and destination of 2011 by the biggest travel website in China, the city’s Department of Information and Tourism said Monday.
Chao Hsin-ping, the department’s commissioner, said the city appreciated the recognition and looked forward to having more Chinese tourists personally experience the city’s charm.
She also recorded a video, which was played at the award presentation ceremony in Shanghai on Sunday, to introduce some of Taipei’s renowned sites to Chinese people, including the National Palace Museum and Taipei 101.
Taipei won a special “judges panel award” as the most charming destination, the only city in Taiwan to receive an award in the online survey.
But it did not figure among the choices of Chinese netizens who voted for their favorite domestic and foreign destinations on the “Ctrip” travel website from Nov. 16 to Dec. 22.
