French award recognizes Beitou hotel’s uniqueness

TAIPEI–A hotel tucked away in a geothermal valley in the Beitou suburb of Taipei has been recognized by the Paris-based Relais & Chateaux, a renowned reference of excellence in the hotel and restaurant sector.

Villa 32 was awarded the 2012 Relais & Chateaux’s Innovation Trophy for its efforts in combining the unique natural surroundings — water, stone and trees — into the property’s five guest rooms, according to a statement from Relais & Chateaux. Each room also has its own natural hot spring tub.

The group awards 12 Relais & Chateaux trophies each year to recognize men, women and properties that share its high standards.

The villa, operated by the Chiu family since 2004, became a Relais & Chateaux property in 2010 — the first hotel in Taiwan to be admitted to the group. The group is known for its extremely strict admission standards.
