Festival to promote Tibet culture kicks off in Taipei

TAIPEI–Tibetan artists and musicians will gather in Taipei over the next few weeks to take part in a festival that is promoting Tibetan culture and traditions to the Taiwanese people, the organizer said yesterday.

The first Free Tibet Festival, which kicked off Feb. 18 and is scheduled to run until March 11, offers an array of events including a photo exhibition, film screenings and lectures, as well as music, dance and theatrical performances.

Taiwan Friends of Tibet President Chou Mei-li said her organization and local theater group Dark Eyes Performance Lab have worked together to make the festival happen with the aim of allowing the Taiwanese public to gain a better understanding of Tibetan culture.
