The China Post news staff–Temperatures in northern Taiwan are expected to drop to a low of 13 degrees Celsius during the coming four-day holiday through the Peace Memorial Day on Feb. 28, due to the approach of a cold air mass, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) forecast yesterday.
CWB officials said that starting today through tomorrow, there be will be short periods of rain in northern and eastern Taiwan amid the strengthening of the northeast wind, and part of the central and southern Taiwan will also see sporadic rains. Rainy weather is expected to last until Feb. 28, according to the CWB. The officials said the approaching cold air mass will drive down temperatures starting Feb. 26 through Feb. 28, amid the lingering rain, with temperatures in northern Taiwan to drop to 13 or 14 degrees Celsius.
Yesterday, there were thunder showers seen in areas north Taiwan as well as northeastern Taiwan due to the convection cloud system moving in.
In the daytime yesterday temperatures declined slightly to 22-24 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan, 23-25 degrees in central and southern Taiwan. Temperatures declined further to 14-16 degrees Celsius in the night. Besides rain, the CWB yesterday also issued warnings for heavy fog in western areas, and offshore counties as Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu.
