Delegation to talk up trade on visit to South America

TAIPEI–The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) said yesterday that it will lead a delegation to South America March 3 to promote sales of auto parts, watch parts, 3C and textile products.

The delegation will be headed by Wayne Wu, deputy chairman of the semi-official TAITRA, and will seek Taiwan’s expansion into emerging markets, including Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Chile, which account for 73 percent of Taiwan’s South American market.

Wu, along with representatives from 55 local small- and medium-sized enterprises, will also promote Taiwanese bicycles, stationery and home accessories, as well as “green” products such as LED technology and solar energy, the council said.

Taiwan’s exports to South America overall posted a dramatic year-on-year growth of 25.9 percent in 2011 amid the global economic downturn, according to government statistics.
