TAIPEI–Taiwanese pitcher Chien-Ming Wang of the Washington Nationals got a win in his first spring training game this year despite giving up two runs in two innings to the New York Mets in Florida Saturday.
Wang cruised through the first inning but got into a jam in the second, as the Mets loaded the bases with nobody out on two hits and a walk.
He struck out the next two batters but gave up a two-RBI single to Omar Quintanilla in a split-squad game the Nationals eventually won 8-2.
In his two-inning stint, Wang threw 43 pitches, including 26 strikes.
According to AP, the 31-year-old Tainan native admitted after the game that his pitches sank more than he intended, but manager Davey Johnson was happy with what he saw.
