Foxconn Technology Group (鴻海科技集團) yesterday promised to cooperate if one day Apple Inc. decides to inspect the environmental control situation of its supplier factories in mainland China.
According to reports from the Financial Times, Apple has agreed with a U.S. Fair Labor Association (FLA, 公平勞動協會) request to conduct environmental control inspections in its Chinese supplier factories. Investigations will be conducted by Apple, as well as Beijing’s Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE, 公眾環境研究中心).
Foxconn announced yesterday that it had only recently been inspected by the IPE, and believes that it will not have to be re-inspected on environmental pollution standards. If Apple and the IPE approach the company together for further inspections, however, Foxconn will still cooperate, it said.
The company believes that Apple’s decision to conduct inspections has nothing to do with past problems at Foxconn facilities.
