TAIPEI–Taiwanese PC vendor Acer Inc. said yesterday it will not change its endorsement deal with Washington Nationals pitcher Chien-Ming Wang despite his admission of an extra-marital affair that occurred two years ago.
“Currently, we don’t want to change it,” Acer Chairman and CEO J.T. Wang said of the endorsement deal signed with Chien-Ming Wang in 2005.
“We understand that he was undergoing long hours of rehabilitation after his injuries, and we don’t want to change (the deal) now,” the chairman said at the company’s investor conference.
Wang, aged 32, one of Taiwan’s most successful sports figures, admitted at a press conference Monday in the United States that he had an extra-marital affair in 2010 that lasted for eight months. The disclosure upended his public image in Taiwan as a faithful family man.
