Government data signal weak economy for 5th-straight month


TAIPEI — Taiwan’s economy continued to be affected by the gloomy global outlook in March, government indicators showed yesterday, although the economic prospects are expected to improve from the second quarter.

The Cabinet-level Council for Economic Planning and Development composite index of monitoring indicators fell to 14 in March from 15 recorded the previous month.

It marked the fifth consecutive month in which the economy had flashed a blue light, indicating a sluggish economy.
