TAIPEI–Premier Sean Chen instructed the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) in a meeting yesterday to name 20 industries to be earmarked for priority development.
Chen instructed the ministry to compile a list of priority industries proposed by various government agencies, with the aim of inducing increased output, more job opportunities and improved distribution of wealth.
The premier said industrial development should incorporate new factors and that government agencies should be sensitive to the needs of industrial development.
“All government agencies should make substantive proposals May 11, after which, the ministry will conduct an initial screening,” Chen said.
Following that, Minister without Portfolio Kuan Chung-ming, who is an expert in econometrics, and the nation’s top economic planning body, the Council for Economic Planning and Development, will engage in follow-up discussions.
