Gov’t to pledge US$2 mil. for struggling economies

TAIPEI — Taiwan will contribute US$2 million this year to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for development projects in economically struggling countries, according to a statement released by Taiwan’s representative office in the UK on Saturday.

Taiwan’s representative to the UK Shen Lyu-shun announced the donation at an annual EBRD meeting and business forum, which was held at the bank’s headquarters in London May 17-19.

At a meeting session May 17, Shen reiterated Taiwan’s commitment to active participation in the European bank’s trade and investment aid projects in developing countries, said the representative office, Taiwan’s de facto embassy in the UK in the absence of diplomatic ties.
