TAIPEI–A child welfare organization is raising funds for disadvantaged children in families suffering as a result of rising commodity prices caused by fuel price hikes and the government’s decision to raise electricity rates.
In its project to build a “101 Building of Love,” the Taipei-based Child Welfare League Foundation said it hopes to attract at least 1,001 donors and raise NT$3 million (US$101,000) or more.
Taipei’s 101 building is an important local landmark and a popular tourist attraction.
“In Taiwan, nearly 80 percent of disadvantaged children suffer from hunger or the lack of basic necessities,” the foundation said on its website.
