COA minister departs for Russia to attend 2nd APEC

TAIPEI — Agriculture Minister Chen Bao-ji departed Taiwan yesterday for Kazan, Russia, where he will attend the second Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) ministerial meeting on food security, according to a statement by the Cabinet-level Council of Agriculture (COA).

During the two-day meeting, slated for May 30-31, Chen will deliver an address on what Taiwan has done to promote food safety, and share Taiwan’s measures and experiences in boosting agricultural output, attracting investments in the agricultural sector, securing food supplies for disadvantaged groups and fighting against illegal fishing, the statement said. Chen, who is heading a delegation composed of officials from the COA, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Department of Health, will also discuss ways to maintain food security in the region, the statement added.

It noted that apart from attending the upcoming ministerial meeting, Chen will also hold bilateral talks with his counterparts or representatives from countries including the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the Philippines, exchanging views on issues of mutual concern.
