Kaohsiung mayor leaves on 13-day visit to US, Canada

TAIPEI–Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu left Taiwan yesterday for Portland for a city sisterhood promotion and will also visit San Francisco to solicit investment during a 13 day-trip to the western United States and Canada.

Chen said she was invited by officials of Portland, Kaohsiung’s sister city, to attend the Portland Rose Festival on June 9.

Kaohsiung will contribute two dragon boat-themed floats to the festival as gifts, and Chen will host an eye-dotting ceremony for the floats, she said.

The city’s delegation to the festival will comprise more than 70 people, including 20 city councilors and students on the Shu-te Home Economics and Commercial High School dragon boat team, she said.

Lan Chien-chang, chief of the city’s Economic Development Bureau, said the group of officials will also visit businesses in San Francisco.
