WTO director-general to address conference in Taipei to mark 10 years of local participation

TAIPEI — World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Pascal Lamy will speak via video conference at an international conference to be held in Taipei June 8 to mark 10 years of Taiwan’s WTO participation.

Lamy’s speech will focus on the changing landscape of world trade and its future challenges and opportunities, according to the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research, which is organizing the conference.

The institution said the conference will review the progress and changes that have taken place in the 10 years since Taiwan’s accession into the WTO on Jan. 1, 2002, and discuss the experiences of various countries in coping with the global economic situation.

The event will be centered around two main themes: new developments in global economic integration and mapping out an economic blueprint for Taiwan in the next decade, the institution added.
